I was, like, weirdly stuck in this comfort zone of these, like, white guys - whether it was because, you know, they approached me, whether it was because they were the people I was around, that was just what I had gotten used to. Or at least, that's the story in our culture - a romantic story that, I think, prevents us from looking at all the crud that lies beneath. And they were really rooting for me, which is both troubling and a bit funny because I, too, am one of those statistics.
